It’s with great sadness T&W report the passing of one of our dear volunteers.
Roy joined the gang late last year, following a chance conversation with one of our other volunteers. That chat revealed Roy had a very personal connection to our own Lady Daphne, as his grandfather had been on the lifeboat the day she remarkably sailed into the Scillies with no skipper or crew aboard.
Roy and Isaac preparing the work boat at LeighAn ex-tug man, Roy was a fantastic addition to our helpers and led on securing us the work boat and spent many hours using her to wash the mud away from Shoregate, making the space usable for the dry dock and barges.
To see Roy scrambling in and out the work boat and climbing up the dry dock mooring ropes like a monkey just a couple of months ago, it is scarcely believable that illness took him, too soon for a man with still so much energy to give.
Roy brought a great amount of West Country warmth to Shoregate when he was there – always cheery and enthusiastic, getting stuck in with every task. It was a pleasure to have got to know him over the winter.
RIP Roy, you will be missed.
