Swale Barge Match

The Swale Barge Match takes place on one of the most unspoiled stretches of river on the East Coast.

There is a regatta feel to the event, with separate classes for barges, smacks, classic yachts, old gaffers, steam ships and dutch barges.

Date: Saturday 15th August 2020

Embarkation: 0930hrs

Return: Ca. 1700hrs

COVID UPDATE – The organisers are currently deciding whether to proceed with the event. Whilst we will aim to enter the barge in the race if it goes ahead, we are not offering spaces to the public on board. The course starts the barges at the Sand End buoy, opposite the Sportsman pub at Seasalter. From here, the usual course is to go out toward the Whitstable wind farm, then on to Herne Bay and finally past Whitstable, before finishing at the Receptive buoy off Harty Ferry.

Guests are collected by barge boat from the all tide slip at Harty Ferry (south side) and will be dropped off at the same point at the end of the day.

The evening prizegiving supper is held at the Hollowshore boat yard, adjacent the Shipwrights Arms pub. There is usually live music, a hog roast and plenty of beer!

If you are interested in joining the barge for this event, please read our General Information page or call Ed, the Skipper, on 07814950442.
