The Swale Barge Match takes place on one of the most unspoiled stretches of river on the East Coast.
There is a regatta feel to the event, with separate classes for barges, smacks, classic yachts, old gaffers, steam ships and dutch barges.
2024 MATCH DETAILS
Date: Saturday 10th August 2024
Start Time – 0700hrs
Embarkation: 0600hrs
Return: Ca. 1500hrs
The course starts the barges at the Sand End buoy, opposite the Sportsman pub at Seasalter. From here, the usual course is to go out toward the Whitstable wind farm, then on to Herne Bay and finally past Whitstable, before finishing at the Receptive buoy off Harty Ferry.
Edith May is available to all our Mate and Skipper Patrons or Cambria is available to book to non-patrons.
Guests are collected by barge boat from Hollowshore and will be dropped off at the same point at the end of the day. Welly boots required.
Alternatively, join the barge at Lower Halstow on Thursday night and enjoy a passage to and from the Match as well.
The evening prizegiving supper is held at the Hollowshore boat yard, adjacent the Shipwrights Arms pub. There is usually live music, a hog roast and plenty of beer!
