As part of the 60th birthday celebrations for Gravesend lightship LV21, Edith May will be running hour long sailing experiences from Gravesend Town Pier on Saturday 16th September.
Sailing at 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm, you’ll be invited aboard and shown why Thames sailing barges became the most efficient commercial craft in the world.
The Skipper and crew will explain the basics of the rig as they slip the moorings and head off into the river to show you how it all works in practice, before returning alongside.
A Thames sailing barge is the ideal platform to experience these sights from, with plenty of deck space and a comfortable hold to explore.
Once aboard, refreshments are available to purchase, including hot and cold drinks, a selection of coastal beers, Kent wines and local spirits.
The experience lasts around 60 minutes, with a little variation depending on conditions on the day – please advise the crew if you need to be back sharp.
There is no charge for this sailing experience, although we request a £10 deposit to confirm your space. T&W is powered by crowdfunding and the crew will describe ways you can get involved and help us achieve our community aims.
Before booking, please read the General Information page.
